Emergency office cooling provided by Andrews Sykes for skyscraper

One morning we received an emergency breakdown call from a Client in a high rise skyscraper to inform us that the AC for the entire tower had shutdown. They had more than 100 people on a full level of the building and needed an urgent solution. Andrews Sykes immediately dispatched a sales engineer to conduct a site survey. Within 2 hours we had dispatched the equipment and the Client had cooling before the extreme heat during the middle of the day.

The temporary solution included AS14 tube exhaust AC units. The units were distributed around the office to provide good cooling & air distribution. We also provided AC units for the server room to ensure that the servers could continue to run as they were critical in were used for offices in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. read more

In UAE, most people think that humidity increases during summer but as the below graph shows, this remains relative constant between 26% & 92% throughout the year.

Relative Humidity- 1Dew point is a better measure of how comfortable people will feel compared to relative humidity as it directly relates to how perspiration will evaporate from the skin. The annual range in the UAE is 9 degree Celsius to 27 degree Celsius. This increases to muggy levels from June, July, August and September. Office is kept cool to ensure worker productivity

It is becoming trendy in the UAE for warehouses to be converted into office spaces. This is becoming very popular in areas such as Al Quoz, Ras Al Khor & Jebel Ali Industrial Area. The problem our clients experience when converting warehouses into office spaces, is that the warehouses were designed to store product and often built without AC units, chillers or air handlers.

Andrews Sykes is often called to assist people in warehouses to help with cooling and air distribution. Air conditioning equipment in warehouses is designed differently to office blocks. Euro 2016 fan fest kept cool by Andrews Sykes

United Arab Emirates has a population of 9.5 million people and about 5% of the expats are from United Kingdom and European countries. Many of these fans are looking for venues with big screen TVs and a great atmosphere to watch their favorite sport, football!

This year, the tournament will be held in France which has a great time zone for the fans in United Arab Emirates to watch the games in the evening. The event will take place this year from 10 June – 10 July.

Many fan zones have been set up around the Emirates for fans to watch the games. These include tents that require cooling. Due to the high summer temperatures and number of people in each tent, large chillers & air-handlers were provided to ensure sufficient cooling. Process Cooling for the oil & gas sector

The oil & gas sector is a very important sector for the Middle East as this is one of the largest sources of revenue for many governments.  Each refinery pumps thousands of barrels of oil per day along with natural gas and therefore production inefficiencies or downtime are very costly and can translate to the loss of millions of dollars.

Andrew Sykes was recently approached by a multinational fossil fuel provider to support with process cooling for one of its production facilities. During the oil refining process, the crude oil passes through a heat exchanger to cool down before moving to the next stage. One side of the heat exchanger has crude oil & the other side has sea water. This is effective during the winter but during summer the sea water is heats up and the cooling is dramatically reduced. read more

United Arab Emirates has some of the biggest and best malls in the world. Each mall is also a major tourist attraction and they include amazing activities such as indoor skiing slopes, ice rinks, sky diving simulators, arcade games, indoor tennis courts and indoor golf courses.

One of our clients, who specialize in high-end internal fit-outs, approached us to support them with wild air-cooling.  They wanted to maintain the temperature below 28 degree Celsius and 50% relative humidity during summer to ensure that the area remained cool and dry before the permanent chillers & air-handlers were commissioned in the shopping mall.
